The founders, management and pioneers of Nobel Education Network are three experienced entrepreneurs:
Dr. Alexander Olek studied mathematics in Buenos Aires, received his Bachelor in Science with honors in Biochemistry from University of London, and earned his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Olek has founded companies in bio-technology, internet services, and private education. His bio-technology company Epigenomics launched a ground breaking test for the early detection of cancer and went public in 2004. Dr. Olek has received a number of prestigious awards including: Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year (2001), MIT’s Magazine of Innovation’s Top 100 Young Innovators (2002), the German Founder’s Prize for the “Visionary” category (2002), and Germany’s Top 100 Heads of Tomorrow (2006). Dr. Olek’s engagement in the field of education stems from his personal life. Looking for a school for his four children, he discovered a great need for high-quality, bilingual schools that not only promote individual talent and creativity, but bring together talented students regardless of socio-economic background for an optimal learning environment.
Dr. Kurt Berlin first pursued a scientific career at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, out of which he cofounded the company Epigenomics. He was responsible for scientific strategy, as well as licensing and business development. Kurt negotiated the company´s global license and collaboration agreements. In 2008 he joined PHORMS as CEO of its acquisition-focused subsidiary and completed four takeover negotiations. Under his leadership the company managed the turn-around of its first acquisition, Heidelberg International School. His responsibilities in NEN comprise operations and projects.
Johannes Nagel started his career as a consultant at AT Kearney and subsequently set up a software company which he led as its CFO until 2006. As one of the co-founders of PHORMS and its CFO, he was responsible for its private financing, set up a private fund and was directly responsible for the operational management of several school sites until the end of 2009. Johannes also led the real estate and facility management strategies and negotiated lease contracts worth almost 100 million Euros. At NEN he oversees HR, legal and IT issues.
